Victoria Junior College

This was most likely the most relaxed phase of my schooling life. Nothing particularly unfortunate happened to me during this era. So I could focus on what I was interested in, aka my interests.

Taking Further Math and H3 Math, I got exposed to lots of new formulas and ideas which are very cool! But more on that here.

Apart from the continuous stream of math certificates, I found great pride in one of my interests: Graphing. This hobby of mine eventually led me to earning $500, for getting a Gold Award!

I was competition-hungry these two years, striving to participate in as many events as possible. Unfortunately, high goals often means high disappointment. For 4 of the competitions, I was genuinely heartbroken.

  1. The first in the streak of losses was Physics Olympiad. With only one chance to participate, I focussed lots of my attention onto it. But wow it was hard. Just opening the paper was enough to make the whole lecture room laugh.

  2. Next up was Informatics Olympiad, which tests one's ability to generate algorithms to big-brain, complex problems. I personally don't think I was far off from getting a single award from that. A 68/500 was the best I could do.

  3. Afterwards was the Singapore International Mathematics Competition. Two of my classmates and I were sent to represent VJC in this stay-in competition hosted by NUS. Again, had lots of confidence in our submission but ultimately, nada.

  4. Finally, Math Olympiad. This was the one that hurt the most. All my life, I've gotten a flurry of Bronzes and Silvers for this particular competition. I wanted so desperately to get just one Gold. One last chance to do it. Hais.

I was also the Programming Head of the Robotics Club so that was fun I guess. More on that here.
